Let’s Talk About… Suicide

Over the weekend I read a book called Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher. It follows the story of a guy in high school who receives a set of tapes that were recorded by a girl at his school who recently committed suicide which detail the reasons why she eventually took her own life. It is a really short book and I think that everyone from teens to young adults to adults, teachers, parents etc should read it. International Suicide Prevention Day is on the 10th of September but I feel that there isn’t a “correct” time to talk about suicide because you never know who you can help and whose life you can save.

When researching for this post I began typing “suicide” into Google and the very first option that auto-complete gave me was “suicide methods” (!!!!) That is when I decided that I will not fill this post up with statistics and other information, I will just say this. (Please note that I am by no means qualified to counsel anyone, I just have a voice and I would like to use it for something good.)

You are reading my page and that makes me love you and care about you. I want you to stay and keep reading. I can never ever know exactly how you feel but I know that you aren’t feeling this way because of some test grade or some guy. I know that something ballooned into something and it all turned into an avalanche. Now you are feeling like you can’t go on. Please remember that nobody can take your place in this world. You are the only you and your story matters just as much as anyone else’s. Maybe you asked for help and you didn’t get the help you deserve. Don’t give up… Keep looking for that help. If you can get the love and help you deserve and you stay here with us, you will make the world a better place. You will show us that we can be brave and we can overcome anything.

Here are some numbers that might help you.

I can’t counsel you but if you want to talk about it or just have a chat please email me
--> zaakiram@hotmail.com We can find the help you need together.

If you have a friend you think might be severely depressed or contemplating suicide please talk to them, be there for them and try to get them the help that they need. Here are some signs you can look for.

Until next time

Love and sparkles

  2. I know someone who committed suicide and I think it's also important to let them know they're not making it easier for their loved ones. That's usually what they think, that those they love will be better off with them gone. It's hard for those left behind too. Such a great post I really hope it helps someone IA.
