Today was World Literacy Day and if you know me at all, you
know how much I love books. I have very early childhood memories of being read
to by my Mom and for me being able to read is like being able to breathe. I
went to 1st grade a year and a few months earlier than I should have
and I could barely hold a pencil because I was so tiny and this was a problem
because it meant I couldn’t write legibly. I was put in the “C Group” but once
my teacher heard me reading a book, he had to put me in the “A Group” because I
read so fluently and knew so many “big words”. I can only thank my Mom for this
because she has always stressed the importance of books to us. My eleven year
old brother Muhammad is now also a bookworm and he’s already read books like
Sherlock Holmes, The Hobbit, The Hunger Games and many, many more. Our brother
Abdullah is a little lazy but with all the movie adaptations of books and
comics and all the biographies and autobiographies of soccer players, he is slowly
starting to enjoy reading.
I firmly believe that books are your best friend. They have
gotten me through so many trying times in my life and if you have a good book,
you will never be alone. Amongst my favourites are Harry Potter, The Great
Gatsby, Catcher in the Rye and Perks of Being a Wallflower. I also really love
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass.
I must make mention of my friend Juwi who got me reading YA
and always recommends me the best books. At times, I want to kill her because
the books break my heart (Eleanor and Park, The Fault In Our Stars) but I am
really glad to have her as my Book Guru. Follow her blog on
juwithemad.wordpress.com. Also my girl Raeesa, who will get messages from me at
the oddest of hours when I’m crying because I just finished a book or I want to
talk about a theory. She also shares her books with me. I love you my book babes!
Happy World Literacy Day my lovelies! Go forth and read!
You can friend me on Goodreads here and see my shelves if you’d
like. I also love recommendations so please recommend!
Until next time!

Oh thank you child! I have delightful memories of us reading together. Matilda under the duvet was such fun! You've earned a reward for remembering World Literacy Day. A book maybe?
